Celtic To Battle Rangers For Starlet

According to the latest transfer news emanating from those bastions of truth at the Daily Record, Glasgow Celtic and Sevco 5088 are set for a transfer tug of war to land 21 year old Falkirk midfielder Craig Sibbald. Aberdeen, Hearts and Nottingham Forest are also said to be looking at the player but apparently his favoured destination is Glasgow. Falkirk manager Peter Houston has allegedly offered Sibbald a new deal but the fact it remains unsigned and his contract runs out in the summer suggests he will be moving to pastures new for the 2017/18 season.

Should Sibbald be transferred before his deal expires, Falkirk have made it clear their valuation of the player is £180,000. Sounds like a pretty plausible story right? Well the presence of Celtic on the list of this kid's admirers has set my internal Level 5 alarm bell ringing. Something tells me this whole story is one gigantic steaming pile of sevco.

Sibbald made his debut at a young 16 years of age in 2011 and has featured heavily in Falkirk's side since then, playing around 90 games and scoring 13 goals. Very highly rated by everyone at the club and no doubt a very good young player. Is he good enough for Celtic? Big question but the very fact that he doesn't seem to fit into Brendan's grand plan leaves me extremely suspicious at the motives for this story. Sibbald is being tracked by Sevco, Aberdeen and Hearts, of that I have no doubt. Nottingham Forest possibly, but Celtic?.... I just can't see it. Signing a player like Craig Sibbald reeks of the signing policy before Brendan arrived, when managers such as Lennon and Deila had so called "projects" thrust into their squad whether they wanted them or not.

Maybe this story is true and it's me who has got this wrong and doing the lad a great disservice by saying Celtic aren't interested. Brendan Rodgers is a very smart man and if he thinks that Craig Sibbald would be a good signing for Celtic then who am I to argue. Yet the Falkirk player just doesn't fit with the type of transfers we have seen from Brendan so far and Sevco's championship class players haven't exactly set the heather on fire in the big league either. Signing the player would be a BIG gamble and Brendan Rodgers doesn't do gambles.. he does proper quality.

Honestly the real reason I think Celtic have been linked with this player is that Sevco are absolutely desperate to sign him and remember they are standing right on the edge of fiscal Armageddon. Sibbald ticks all their boxes: championship level player to develop, small transfer fee (if any) and someone who won't want the kind of wages that will tip them over the side. Should Celtic and the new mob ever be in a real transfer tug of war it wouldn't last very long. Glasgow Celtic would blow them away with the resources at our disposal. We have seen first hand the media's agenda when it comes to this myth of sevco beating us for signings. According to the liars in the smsm, Emerson Hyndman is the latest player they have signed from under our noses. I firmly believe that should sevco sign this lad we will see plenty of stories about how he turned down Celtic. Pathetic, but if that's the only way they can remain relevant that's their lookout.

Hail Hail
