Kieran Tierney Rated at Only £10m... By Who?

Another day, another transfer rumour regarding one of our players hits the headlines and I for one am absolutely sick to the back teeth of it! According to several newspapers including the Daily Record, Kieran Tierney is a £10m transfer target for Manchester United and the Red Devils have been tracking the young fullback for sometime. Quite how they are managing to do this when KT has been injured for months is anyone's guess but the real issue here lies not with the chase but with the price itself. How can these journalists write such nonsense with a straight face. If Luke Shaw is worth £30m then what makes them believe that KT would be sold for a fraction of that amount? In fact who has decided on this figure?

We have heard these media reports several times before, with Moussa Dembele being the subject of transfer talk as recently as last month. Most of these stories have a common theme which involves some English club raiding Celtic Park to put paltry sums of money on the table in the hope our Chief Executive will be so dizzied by the EPL riches that he will lose all sense of financial perspective and let the player go for a pittance. It's a comforting and heart warming tale for the sevco readers but it has absolutely ZERO basis in reality.

Peter Lawell is guilty of many things but being naive is simply not one of them. Over the years Peter has pulled off some fantastic deals for the club and it's thanks to his business acumen that we have been able to command top fee's for guys like Virgil Van Diijk and Fraser Forster. Not only did Celtic make a healthy profit on the players but Peter also insisted that a sell on clause was part of the deal. Should VVD move from Southampton it will be quids in for Celtic. If an English club genuinely wants KT then let's start the bidding at £20m. Why not? What gives those deluded EPL teams the right to think they can pay top dollar for guff down there and pay pennies for quality up here? Not a chance is it happening and there is also the Brendan Rodgers factor to consider.

Brendan Rodgers has spoken publicly about his desire to stay and build something special at Celtic. Being a massive fan of Jock Stein has possibly helped his decision to stay on for ten in a row. How does that look if Celtic then begin selling players from underneath him? Of course talents like Dembele and Tierney may wish to test themselves in the EPL one day but if we start flogging these guys before Brendan gives the signal then we run the risk of losing him. Top managers don't stand for moves like that and Brendan will be no exception. Most of this talk is media driven and designed to unsettle the Celtic players. No one can beat us on the park so they will attempt to destabilize us through other less sporting means.

Indeed such is the timing of this story that a cynic would be tempted to cast a suspicious glance over in the direction of Sevco, where Davie Weir has decided to go rouge and point out an obvious truth to the hordes. Weir's claim that Rangers couldn't catch Celtic with £100m at their disposal plunges a dagger into the very centre of the superiority complex which lies at the heart of their support. Perhaps this KT story is a way of taking the sting from Weir's words. As it stands the chance of KT leaving is absolutely zero and certainly not for a paltry £10m fee. No need to fret Bhoys.

Hail Hail
