Celtic Hold All The Cards As Pack Chase Our Star Man

Another day, another Dembele out the door rumour makes it's way onto the back pages. How tiresome is it to read what is essentially the same story every day of the week? Seriously it's like groundhog day SMSM style in Scottish football right now and our star striker seems to be slap bang in the centre of a transfer tug of war between more teams than a football manager database. Are the rumours all they seem though? For instance the tone of these articles makes it seem like Dembele is already a goner and Celtic staff are sobbing helplessly in the background waiting on his inevitable departure, despite the player himself indicating he wants to stay. Why should we be resigned to losing him so early in his Celtic career?

Moussa Dembele is under contract at Celtic and it's not some silly two year deal whereby we should be rushing to cash in before his final year. No, the young Frenchman is committed to Celtic for four years meaning that the club has done their homework on the future star. These length of contracts help players feel settled and with MD's undoubted talents it's easy to see why Chief Executive Peter Lawell wanted him tied to a long term one. Celtic are under no obligation to let the player go so soon and English teams can howl at the moon all they like because the fact is no amount of money this January will see the player leave for pastures new. Oh I'm sure one of these over-hyped EPL jokers will play Billy big boots by flashing their chequebook in our direction but what good will it do? Not when Celtic know that when they do finally sell their star man the price will be even higher.due to whatever goalscoring exploits he will get upto in the future.

Celtic hold all the aces here and for some reason there seems to be a suggestion that Moussa's form has dipped and that he has gone off the boil. Sorry but that just isn't the case at all. When MD first came no one in Scotland had a clue who he was and there was less for opposing managers and defenders to worry about. Most had their eye on Leigh Griffiths to the point where MD practically blindsided us all with his talents. Remember how we were doomed because Leigh was set to miss the first Celtic-Sevco game of the season? MD came in and showed what he is made of in that match and further enhanced his reputation with a blistering solo show against Manchester City. Defenders are marking him tighter and when he adapts to the situation the goals will come flying thick and fast again. So when are Celtic likely to sell Moussa Dembele?

Chances are the big man will be gone after his second season and that Celtic will get plenty money for him. Transfer deals down South are completely off the scale and when the news Liverpool were keeping a watchful eye on MD it probably brought a smile to anyone who scoffs at the valuation of players down South. After all here's a team who forked out 35 million pounds for Andy Carroll, a move which should have saw Kenny Dalglish bundled away by the men in white coats. If AC is worth that amount then how much should Celtic expect to get for Dembele? Spare me the notion we should be letting him go on the cheap as he hasn't "proved himself" at a good level. Remind me what level Carroll was at when Liverpool signed him? Time will tell but the one certainty is that it won't be cheap and that no amount of wishful thinking by our rivals will make Celtic sell Moussa as early as January either.

Hail Hail
