Celtic Prove Some Things Never Change

Well it wasn't pretty but we got there. Celtic recorded a 1-0 victory over Hamilton at Celtic Park and made it a spectacular 14th victory from 15 consecutive matches. Brendan Rodgers continues to wave his magic wand and the clubs currently behind us will be wondering just how this formidable Celtic team are going to slip up... if we ever do. Of course we don't mind that the chasing pack see us as invincibles, in fact we welcome the chase and anyone in any doubt that this side are capable of doing the nitty gritty and grinding out a result would do well to take a look at the 90 minutes of action that was played tonight.

Ever had a sense of deja vu? It's an extremely uncomfortable and disconcerting feeling of been there, done that and bought the t-shirt. Tonight was all that and more. Brendan Rodgers could have been Ronny Deila standing on the sidelines during the match. Celtic were sluggish at times and struggled to create chances until the breakthrough came. When it did it came not from a new star like Moussa Dembele, but from that man Leigh Griffiths, whose goals last season prevented what would have been an absolutely disaster of epic proportions. Tom Rogic gathered the ball in the centre of the park and fired a defence splitting pass which left Hamilton exposed and Moussa Dembele facing an onrushing Woods and quick as a flash the French youngster flicked the pass to Griffiths who battled with the Hamilton centre half before stabbing the ball into the net.

Such was the sense of deja that you always sensed Celtic wouldn't score anymore, even as Hamilton slightly came out in the second half there was little doing and as the clock ticked down towards full time there was nervousness within the Celtic ranks as Hamilton probed without ever really threatening. Just when it looked like the game would pass without incident there were a few odd calls by the officials. Referee Crawford Allan awarded a free kick to Celtic only to change his mind and give it to Hamilton in a dangerous position. It didn't stop there as Griffiths found himself bundled down in the box with the result being a free kick to the opposition. It was the sort of refereeing performance that hinted at downright cheating and it's all very well looking back and laughing but one of these clowns could cost us the Treble again this year. It needs nipped in the bud immediately.

Nonetheless it was a hard fought victory for Celtic and Brendan Rodgers will be happy with the 3 points if not the performance. Who knows maybe somewhere Ronny Deila saw that game tonight and was instantly reminded of the dross he served up on a weekly basis at Celtic Park. Luckily we have a manager who had the tactical know how for us to see a game out and these types of performances are the exception rather than the rule. Leigh Griffiths on the other hand showed why he scored 40 goals last season and yet again he popped up to score when Celtic needed him most.

Hail Hail

  1. Definitely those two incidents stood out as very odd when the game is looked at closely. There was an uneasy feeling that a twelfth man man trying to help out on a couple of occasions. Maybe my paranoia, but i Definitely thought it.
